Things to See and Do

Bridgend Woods

One of the best ways to explore Islay and discover some of its hidden treasures is by foot. There are lots of great walks on the island and the pictures on the left show some of the walks close to the cottage. Finlaggan, the ancient seat of the Lords of the Isles, is only a short walk from the cottage and is both scenic and of historic interest. The walk from the cottage to Bunnahabhain, via the same approach road to Finlaggan, is stunning and provides some fantastic views of Jura as you approach Bunnahabhain. This walk takes about 3-4 hours, there and back. For a shorter walk, Bridgend Woods offer walks of varying lenghts and you can combine the walk with a visit to the craft shops in Islay Square. There are Ordnance Survey maps and other walk guides in the cottage for anyone to use.
