There are eight distilleries on Islay, and one on Jura, producing a range of distinctive and world famous single malts. All the distilleries offer visitor tours and, if you want to taste and smell some of the true essence of Islay, a visit or two is highly recommended. Also, you will meet some of the extremely friendly and enthusiastic people of the island who are always very keen to share some, but not all, of the secrets of the Islay whisky. Even if you are not a whisky fan, it is worth visiting the distilleries, many of which are located in beautiful settings, the picture on the right shows Lagavulin Bay.
